Advanced Technologies for Methane Abatement Reverse Trade Mission
The Bilateral Chamber supported the U.S. Trade and Development Agency's reverse trade mission on advanced technologies for methane abatement for Algeria, Egypt, and Libya.
Methane is a powerful but short-lived climate pollutant that accounts for about half of the net rise in global average temperature since the pre-industrial era. During COP 27 in Egypt, it was announced that more than 150 countries have joined the Global Methane Pledge (GMP), representing 70% of global gross national product. 50+ GMP participating countries have developed national methane abatement action plans and many more will follow.
Participating GMP countries agree to take voluntary actions to contribute to a collective effort to reduce global methane emissions at least 30 percent from 2020 levels by 2030, The delegation’s methane abatement action plans and initiatives include the procurement of advanced U.S. technologies, services and best practices to address methane leak detection and repair (LDAR), emission measurement, tracking and other abatement solutions in the oil and gas sector.
The delegation is comprised of high-level MENA region decision-makers representing the energy sector from the countries of Algeria, Egypt, and Libya who are interested in procuring U.S. technology, and services.
