Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded 798 million dirhams ($217.27 million) contract for the third phase of K-Station to Spanish company Duro Felguera, it was announced on Tuesday.

K-Station is part of DEWA’s Jebel Ali power and water desalination station. The scope of the contract involves supply, installation, testing and launch of two F-type gas turbines from Siemens with a total capacity of 590 megawatts (MW), the Authority said in a statement.

It said the completion of third phase, scheduled for third quarter 2019, would increase K-Station’s production capacity to 1,538 MW from existing 948 MW, and increase DEWA’s total installed capacity to 11,990 MW.

In October 2016, Thomson Reuters Projects reported that DEWA received 12 bids for the engineering, procurement and construction contract for K Station third phase.
