The Bilateral Chamber of Commerce is pleased to host the 12th annual Model Arab League (MAL) regional conference. Held in partnership with the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations, the Bilateral MAL will convene university students to partake in a debate simulation based on the Arab League, a confederation of twenty-two Arab nations whose broad mission is to improve coordination among its members on matters of common interest.

After selecting a member states to represent at the conference, students will be divided into different councils to debate specific topics and draft resolutions. The councils follow a pre-set agenda that reflects real-time issues that are being discussed by the Arab League.

To resolve issues by creating beneficial resolutions, students are encouraged to negotiate and create joint coalitions so that they are able to realize combined goals and utilize multilateral diplomacy while keeping their country’s interests intact. If passed, these council resolutions are presented to the entire conference during a Closing Summit Session for closing debate and a final vote. This year’s debate topics vary from developing strategies for conflict mediation among member states and encouraging the development and financing of the IT sector to cybersecurity and children’s education, among many others.

Danielle Caltabiano, Global Energy Team Leader at the U.S. Commercial Service – Houston, will provide the keynote address at the Closing Summit.
