The Bilateral Chamber of Commerce had the pleasure of hosting the 12th annual Model Arab League (MAL) regional conference. Held in partnership with the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations, the Bilateral MAL assembled university students who partook in a debate simulation based on the Arab League, a confederation of twenty-two Arab nations whose broad mission is to improve coordination among its members on matters of common interest.

As member states representatives at the conference, the students were divided into different councils that debated specific topics and drafted resolutions. The councils followed a pre-set agenda that reflected real-time issues discussed by the Arab League.

The students demonstrated their outstanding negotiation skills and created joint coalitions that favored combined goals and utilized multilateral diplomacy, which resulted in the creation of beneficial resolutions. Once passed, those resolutions were presented to the entirety of the conference at the Closing Summit Session where the closing debate and final votes took place. Throughout the conference debate topics varied from developing strategies for conflict mediation among the member states and encouraging the development and financing of the IT sector to cybersecurity and children’s education, among many others.

This year, the Keynote address presented at Closing Summit was provided by Danielle Caltabiano, the Global Energy Team Leader at the U.S Commercial Service – Houston. In her address Danielle elaborated on her own career journey and encouraged the students with some well spoken advice.
